Civics in the Synagogue: Conspiracy Theories, Cults, and the Human Need for Control

What draws people to embrace fringe beliefs and what can we (realistically) do about it? We will talk with two experts in the field. Dr. Benjamin Israel is a Service Chief, psychiatrist, and psychotherapist at The Trauma Disorders Program at Sheppard Pratt Hospital in Baltimore, MD  who has treated hundreds of survivors of early childhood abuse, including survivors of extreme, organized forms of child abuse and cult abuse. Dr. Sarah Swenson, Psy.D., is a psychologist with The Trauma Disorders Program at Sheppard Pratt in Baltimore, MD and specializes in treating survivors of early childhood abuse utilizing an eclectic treatment approach including hypnosis, cognitive techniques, and psychodynamic underpinnings.
