Smithsonian American Art Museum: Chicano Graphics and Social Justice
About this event
We invite you to join our highly-qualified docent Amy Sabrin as we explore the Smithsonian American Art Museum's landmark exhibition:
"Printing the Revolution! The Rise and Impact of Chicano Graphics, 1965 to Now"
which highlights how Chicanx artists have linked innovative printmaking practices with social justice.
A review in Artnet in March 2021 writes that this exhibition sets out with an epic goal: to reshape our understanding of who gets to tell U.S. history. Its wide-ranging artwork addresses the United Farm Workers' struggle for better labor rights for migrant workers, immigration and gun reform, the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, and calls for denouncing police brutality made by the Movement for Black Lives and other groups.
Zoom link will be provided via email.
