Film Discussion: Movies that Deal with Blacklisting
About this event

Gentleman's Agreement

Trumbo
Join us via Zoom as we discuss two movies that deal with blacklisting and antisemitism.
Gentleman's Agreement (1947) - This film tells the story of a journalist who poses as a Jew to research antisemitism in New York City and affluent communities in Connecticut. It stars Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, and John Garfield.
Trumbo (2015) - Set in 1947, during the McCarthy era, a successful screenwriter gets blacklisted for his beliefs. Although Dalton Trumbo wasn't Jewish, the film shows how suspicion often focused on Jewish actors, writers and directors. The star-studded cast includes Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, and Dame Helen Mirren.
Both movies are available on Amazon Prime.
Please watch both movies in advance.
