Ken Burns calls the documentary
"The most important project of his lifetime"
We are pleased to welcome ChaiVillageLA members Victor Gold,
Myrna Hant and Linda Smith to lead our discussion.
The US and the Holocaust is a three-part, six-hour series that tells the story of how the American people grappled with one of the greatest humanitarian crises of the twentieth century, and how the struggle tested our ideals of democracy. It examines the periods leading up to and during the Holocaust and in so doing, grapples with questions that remain essential to our society today.
Victor Gold: Victor received a BA and JD from UCLA. He served as dean of the Loyola Law School 2008 to 2015, has written several books on Evidence and Advocacy Law, and has also received awards for Excellence in Teaching at Loyola Law School. He has served as legal analyst national news channels as well as the New York and Los Angeles Times. In 2018 his series The Supreme Court and the Constitution was very well received by the members of CVLA.
Myrna Hant: Myrna received her PhD in Higher Education from UCLA. She has been a college administrator and instructor in Women's Studies at Chapman University and has researched the roles of older women in film and television at the UCLA Center for the Study of Women. She facilitates classes in Understanding the World News at ChaiVillageLA.
Linda J Smith: After graduating from UCLA Law School, Linda spent 40 years at O'Melveny and Myers litigating "bet the company cases". She has taken a deep interest in the ADL's reports and seminars on historic and current anti-semitism and is a member of the ADL's Kulanu Task Force: Synagogues in Action Against Anti-Semitism.
