Contemporary Jewish Issues: A Focus on Intermarriage -- CANCELED
About this event

HOW TO UNDERSTAND
AMERICAN JEWISH INTERMARRIAGE
Join Bruce Phillips, Temple Emanuel and ChaiVillageLA member, in an illuminating talk that will address the issue of Intermarriage in contemporary Jewish life.
Bruce Phillips is currently completing a book on interfaith marriage in which he synthesizes all the national surveys in the fifty years from 1970 to 2020. He will present some major findings but will also point out how some widely held conceptions about interfaith marriage are either wrong or in need of a serious overhaul, including these perceptions:
- Rates of intermarriage are high and getting higher.
- Intermarried couples would join synagogues if they were more "welcoming."
- Intermarriage is not a problem because most couples raise their kids Jewish.
- When Jews go to college they lose their identity and intermarry.
NOTE: If you registered for the event when it was scheduled for 6/12, you do not need to re-register.
