Discussion & Dessert-The Semel Institute: Care and Access for Improving Mental Health

The Semel Institute:
Care and Access for Improving Mental Health
With Dr. Alexander Young

dr young
This month we have Dr. Alexander Young as our Discussion & Dessert speaker. He is interim Director of The Jane and Terry Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. He will speak about the extraordinary work done at the Institute in treating all types of mental illness. What is the Institute's history? What innovative work is being done at the Institute? Is it open to the public?

Dr. Alexander is a psychiatrist and health services researcher. He has led research that characterized health disparities nationally for people with depression and schizophrenia, highlighting disparities by race, gender and age. He is a professor who focuses on community psychiatry, serious mental illness and studying and improving the quality and value of healthcare.

Dr. Alexander received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. After interning at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, he did his residency at UCLA's Neuropsychiatric Hospital.

This is a rare opportunity to learn about The Semel Institute and treatment of mental health from one of the foremost physicians in the field. There will be ample opportunity for questions.

For more information, contact D & D Coordinator Dorothy Salkin at (310) 475-4696 or dorothysalkin@danmar.vc.

Since we will be together virtually, Dorothy is sharing one of her favorite recipes from her cooking classes. Dorothy invites you to prepare it prior to the evening and enjoy it during Discussion & Dessert.
