Women who Misbehaved: Gertrude Bell (Part I)
About this event
Myrna Hant will lead us in a 4-part discussion of four remarkable women adventurers who changed the world's understanding of the Middle East and Africa. Meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of the month from January- April.
In Part I of this series, our first adventurer is GERTRUDE BELL, known as "Queen of the Desert" and the female "Lawrence of Arabia." Bell was an English writer, traveler, political officer, administrator, and archaeologist. She spent much of her life exploring and mapping the Middle East, and became highly influential to British imperial policy-making as an Arabist due to her knowledge and contacts built up through extensive travels.
To learn more about this adventurous female explorer, you may wish to read "The Desert and the Sown " by Gertrude Bell.
